OXXFEST
2010
ROCKS
WISCASSET
RACEWAY |
|
OXXFEST 2010!
Sunshine,
Shinedown and
Sausages.
By Steve
Smith/Wiscasset
Raceway Promoter
This past
Saturday
Wiscasset
Raceway held the
biggest concert
in
Maine
this year.
10,000
fans streamed
into the
transformed
festival grounds
for a day long
rock event on
three stages.
The grounds
outside the
Wiscasset
Raceway were
transformed into
festival
grounds,
complete with
three giant
stages, tents
and vendors. We
at the raceway
were all
amazed at how
fast everything
came together.
The crews
building the
stages, putting
up tents and
fences were
great. The
perfect weather
certainly played
a part in the
jubilant mood of
the crowd.
Everybody came
to Wiscasset to
have a great
time. From Wes
Scanlon of
Puddle of Mudd
jumping into the
Oxxfest crowd to
Brent Smith of
Shinedown saying
it was time
Wiscasset had a
real rock show,
the bands
certainly rose
to the occasion.
By all
accounts
everything ran
very smoothly.
There was plenty
of parking at
the raceway
thanks to all of
our neighbors
who parked cars
and probably
made their town
tax money in one
day. I have also
heard from many
business's that
had very busy
days on Saturday
and we hope that
the economic
impact of our
show was felt
all over the
town of
Wiscasset.
At the raceway
our vendors ran
out of all kinds
of products. Mr.
& Mrs. Sausage
ran out of forks
and buns and
were selling
sausages on a
plate to still
happy customers!
There were very
few traffic
problems on the
roads around the
raceway. Route 1
was backed up
for a little
longer then
usual, but I
think we all
expected that to
be worse. We
thank everyone
in town for
their patience
on Saturday! We
would also like
to thank the
Lincoln County
Sheriff office,
the Wiscasset
Police, the
EMT's
the road
commissioner and
his crew, the
Wiscasset Fire
Department and
all of the town
departments who
went out of
their way to
help us plan and
stage this big
show! There were
also much fewer
incidents than I
think everyone
expected. There
were 8 arrests,
6 for criminal
trespassing for
people asked to
leave the
concert, 1
assault and 1
drug charge.
This is an
extremely low
rate of arrests
for a crowd of
10,000 at an all
day rock
festival. The
professionalism
of the sheriff
deputies and
Wiscasset police
officers was a
big part of the
success of this
event. The crowd
was very happy
and well
behaved.
They were
there to have a
good time and it
showed. Thanks
to all the fans
who took care of
each other at
OXXFEST!
The
highlight of the
event for me was
standing on the
grandstands with
my friend Bob
McDonald, a
lifelong
Wiscasset
resident,
employee of the
town and
volunteer
fireman. We
were
listening to
Brent Smith of
Shinedown thank
Wiscasset,
Maine
several times
and marveling at
the 10,000
people below. It
was a great
night. Let me
echo the words
of the Shinedown
frontman, Thank
You
Wiscasset,
Maine!

Attention Strictly Street Division
Effective immediately: Following the tire test last week, Raceway Management has decided to allow, a 100 pound total weight reduction from the posted rules for Wiscasset Raceway specification cars. Left side percentage to remain unchanged. This change is made to help offset the Goodyear tire advantage. |

THE
MAINE RACING ALLIANCE
2010
Three
Maine Tracks, One Maine
Champion
by
Steve Smith
Spud
Speedway in Caribou,
Speedway 95 in Bangor
and The Wiscasset
Raceway are working
together in 2010 to help
build the Maine Racing
Alliance. All three
tracks have one common
goal, to establish
Late Model Sportsmen
racing in Maine under
one set of rules.
Doug White, owner of The
Wiscasset Raceway says,
“It will take several
years of working
together to fully
realize the goals of the
Maine Racing Alliance.
Our Maine Late Model
Sportsmen Championship
Racing series for 2010
is a great start!” The
Maine Racing Alliance is
hoping that more tracks
get involved and join
Spud, Speedway 95 and
Wiscasset in creating a
Maine division of racing
with a statewide rules
package.
There are three races
planned for 2010. All
three races will be 100
laps with a posted purse
to be announced. The
competitors will receive
points at each race
which will make them
eligible for a points
fund which will crown a
Maine Late Model
Sportsman Champion in
September 2010. Mr. John
Linnehan of the Gospel
in Trenton, Maine will
again be an associate
sponsor of the Late
Model Sportsmen Series.
Mr. Linnehan will be
giving out over $1000 in
cash prizes at each
race! Please join us in
supporting Maine racing
in 2010 at one of these
exciting events:
The Late Model Sportsmen
Championship Series 2010
·
Sunday, July

·
Saturday,

Help
Say Thank You to Maine Veterans
Wiscasset Raceway and Aable Auto
Parts
support
Operation Recognition
in 2010
by Steve
Smith
(Wiscasset,
ME)
Operation Recognition is a
non-profit, non-partisan group,
founded to deliver a
long-overdue Thank-you!
to our servicemen and women.
They risk their lives for our
protection and well-being and
they deserve a meaningful
gesture of appreciation.
Wiscasset Raceway and Aable Auto
Parts in
Chelsea
want to help provide a week
long, all expenses paid vacation
to members of the military and
their families. During the 2010
racing season in Wiscasset you
will have a chance to win the
#12 Enduro car donated by Aable
Auto Parts. Raffle tickets go on
sale at The Northeast Motor
Sports Show, January 8th,
9th and 10th at the
Augusta
Civic Center.
Operation Recognition is a
community effort started in
Lincoln
county in 2007. Since that time
many military families, like
Amanda, Joe and six-month old
Abigail have enjoyed a weeks
stay on the coast of
Maine
after coming home from
Iraq
and
Afghanistan.
“The folks and the business'
that have donated for us really
made Joe and I feel proud to be
serving in the Maine Army
National Guard,” said Amanda.
“To see the support from our
communities here in
Maine
is the best pay off by far and
makes us feel proud to put on
our uniforms.” Operation
Recognition also gives
families a chance to spend time
together before going overseas.
The Bennett family spent some
together before a deployment. “I
head to
Afghanistan
right after the holidays. Trying
to coordinate family time with
our eight and ten year old
children has been challenging.
With this program we were able
to enjoy a fun full week that we
know the kids will remember. We
are so proud to represent
Maine.
There is no other state with
such a community!”
Wiscasset Raceway and Aable Auto
Parts are happy to support
Operation Recognition. We are
looking for other business' that
want to help as well. “If you
make any size donation we'll put
your logo on the #12 Enduro car”
said Doug White, owner of
Wiscasset Raceway. “Come see us
at the Northeast Motor Sports
show in January or call us at
the raceway.” Get your raffle
ticket at the races in 2010. The
winner will also get to race
their car at our Enduro
Championship, “The 2010 Fall
Brawl” in September. To make a
donation or for more information
about Operation Recognition,
check the website at
www.wiscassetraceway.info.
Operation Recognition is
also looking for restaurant
and lodging donations to
give to military families
like Dan and Linda Rogers.
“Dan was gone from home for
almost sixteen months with a
full twelve in
Iraq,
this time was difficult for
us. We want to thank
everyone participating in
this program making it
possible for a military
family like us to feel so
appreciated and supported.
Thanks to all and God Bless
