(Wiscasset, ME)
The race for the
championship
begins!
by Steve
Smith -
207-208-9712
The race for the
first Maine Late
Model
championship
began
this Sunday at
The Center of
Speed,
Wiscasset
Raceway! 24 Late
Models from all
over the state
lined up on the
front stretch
for the first of
three Maine
Alliance races.
The 100 lap
feature started
with a wave off
from all of the
drivers as the
paraded past the
grandstands. The
three heat
winners started
up front with
Darren Ripley in
his #70 “big
race car”
starting in the
pole position.
Also starting up
front on Sunday
were heat
winners Michael
Landry in the
#40 and Nick
Reno in the #41.
Corey Morgan,
coming off his
top 3 Oxford 250
finish, also
started up front
in the #26 car.
Two generations
of Maine racers,
Dave “Boss Hogg”
and Josh St.
Clair driving
the #14 and #33
also ended up up
front with
second place
heat finishes.
Darren Ripley's
#70 was the
fastest car for
most of the
race. He led
through 70 plus
laps with Mike
Landry, the St.
Clairs' and the
#87 of Chuck
Colby making up
the lead pack.
There was some
aggressive
driving as these
late model
racers got to
know each other
on the track and
the first half
of the race was
punctuated by
several
cautions. After
80 laps the
field was 7 late
models down and
the race for the
win was door to
door. After
leading most of
the race, Darren
Ripley's #70
gave out and he
was forced down
pit road late.
This opened up
the door for
Chuck Colby in
his #87 Late
Model to pull
out the win!
Mike Landry, who
was right behind
the #70 for most
of the race
takes second and
Josh St. Clair
takes third.
Colby, a veteran
Wiscasset racer,
made his
triumphant
return the The
Center of Speed
with a big win
in the first of
the three Maine
Alliance races!
The race for the
championship
continues at
Speedway 95 in
Bangor on
September 11th
and Spud
Speedway on
September 25th.

Top 5 Finishers
Great week at
Wiscasset. We
were joined buy
Maine racing
legend Andy
Santerre and
Maine Nascar
Camping World
Driver Dale
Brackett for
Castle Day
brought to you
by Soule's Auto
Supply in
Chelsea. One of
Andy's old #44
Castle cars and
Dale's Nascar
Truck were on
display. The
crowd was
treated to some
hot laps from
Dale and some
burning tires
from a Nascar
Truck. The
Wiscasset crowd
always
appreciates a
good smoke show!
The
Mini-Stock
battle continued
this week with
our top 2
flipped from
last weeks
feature result.
Robbie Greenleaf
in the #2 car
took the
checkered flag
in front of Pete
McCollett in the
#20 car. Thomas
True with back
to back feature
wins in this
early season
pulled his car
down pit lane in
the heat and did
not return for
the feature.
Keep on eye on
the points this
week. Nice to
see Mike Wilson
bring the #92
car down to
Wiscasset and
Chelsea Young
get a top 5
finish in the
pink #18 car.

on to the back

is fighting a
tough battle
with ALS and it
is nice to have
him around for

all trying the

The All-Enduro
race was fun
again this week
with an extended
50 lap feature
that took it's
toll on many of
the cars. Three
mini vans
started the race
only to fall
victim to flat
tires and head
down pit lane.
We had a very
nice field, but
when Justin
White, the track
owners son, was
DQ'd after a
second place
finish our new
fifth place
qualifier will
take a scorers
meeting to
figure out.

A WILD WEEKEND
IN WISCASSET!
by Steve
Smith,
207-208-9712
(Wiscasset, ME)
The new Knox
Brothers
Carquest and Ray
Haskell Ford
Enduro divisions
held the
spotlight this
past Sunday at
The Wiscasset
Raceway. The all
classes Enduro
feature was won
by #32 Kevin
Morse of
Woolwich who
passed #14
Justin White of
Wiscasset with
just a handful
of laps to go in
the 30 lap
feature. There
was also the
first sighting
of the much
anticipated
racing
mini-vans! It
was discovered
that they can
apparently spin
out 360 degrees
and recover just
fine. The real
excitement came
when #83, Mike
St. Germain of
Auburn was
bumped by one of
the mini vans
right in front
of the
grandstands. The
#83 Enduro hit
the wall, was
lifted in the
air and landed
on it's roof!
Mike St. Germain
immediately
scrambled out of
the car and
bowed to the
crowd. Then he
gestured to the
track crew who
helped him flip
the car back
over and
continued the
race in his
smoking #83!
Mike certainly
embodies the
spirit of the
Enduro racer.
What a great
race. Join us
next Sunday for
more Enduro
action!
Mike
St. Germain also
picked up the
win in his #83
Strictly for the
New England
Transmission
Strictly Street
division. Mike
certainly lived
up to his
reputation this
weekend as the
hardest working
man in Maine
racing!
Dave
“Boss Hog” St.
Clair is having
a great start to
his 2010 racing
season. He
picked up his
second win in a
row in the
Steel's Real
Rods & Custom
Late Model
feature. His #14
car passed
Wiscasset's Nick
Hinckley late in
the race to take
the checkered
flag. There's a
lot of racing to
go, but Boss Hog
seems to have
built up some
momentum in the
Late Model
Sportsmen so far
this season.
Next
Sunday at 2pm,
the Enduros
return, regular
racing and the
Maine Mods are
back at The
Center of Speed.

THE 2010 MINI STOCK
DIVISION GETS A LITTLE
TWISTED!
Wiscasset Raceway
welcomes new sponsors.

by Steve Smith
- 207-208-9712
March 17, 2010
Wiscasset Raceway is
happy to announce a new
Division sponsor.
Twisted Tea will be the
2010 sponsor for our
Mini-Stocks Division.
Founded in 2001 their
slogan is “Be a Little
Twisted!” The Twisted
Tea brewmasters (yes,
their job is as cool as
it sounds) have been
committed to brewing a
hard iced tea that not
only tastes like real
iced tea but also
delivers an incredibly
smooth and refreshing
drinking experience.
“I've heard that
the Mini-Stock drivers
at Wiscasset Raceway
might be a little more
twisted then the other
drivers” said Steve
Smith, marketing
director at The Center
of Speed. “We thought
that Twisted Tea might
be a good fit. I am
looking forward to
finding out!”
Twisted Tea will
be available this race
season and the Wiscasset
Raceway will be hosting
lot's of Twisted events.
Look for the Twisted Tea
girls this season at The
Center of Speed.
We would also
like to welcome new
Raceway supporters
Boston Beer Company,
brewers of Samuel Adams,
“America's World-Class
Beer” and Miller Lite.
“We're looking
forward to all of the
great events and
promotions with Sam
Adams and Miller Lite in
2010”, said Doug White,
owner of the Wiscasset
Raceway “we hope
everyone enjoys
themselves at The Center
of Speed in 2010.
Opening day is right
around the corner,
Sunday, May 23rd.
BE THERE!

HOW TO
BEAT THE HIGH
COST
OF STOCK CAR RACING
Wiscasset Raceway re-introduces
ENDURO racing for 2010
by
Steve Smith
(Wiscasset,
ME) Dec. 7th -
The Center of Speed,
Wiscasset Raceway, is going back to the
grass roots of racing for the 2010
season. After announcing all Sunday
Twilight Racing, Wiscasset Raceway is
proud to present another innovation for
2010. A brand new weekly program for
real street cars, preparing them for
racing competition Enduro style.
Enduro racing is an entry class series
whose rules are designed to keep costs
down. Enduro cars really are "stock."
Most start out as wrecks, which are
bought from auctions or junkyards.
Enduro cars are much more affordable to
maintain as well. For many Enduro
racers, the off season means they simply
throw a tarp on the car in the fall, and
take it off in the spring. These cars
are tough.
“Speed
is not necessarily what will make you
win,” says one long time Enduro racer,
"it's more like longevity. You can't win
if you don't finish.”
Anyone
can prepare a street car for competition
and bring it to The Center of Speed,
Wiscasset Raceway, and compete in 2010.
“We will have a v8/v6 Division, The Knox
Bros. Auto Parts 4cylinder Division, a
Mini Van Division, and a Powder Puff
Division for ladies only,” says Doug
White, owner of Wiscasset Raceway.
“There will be one Division running each
week with a Fall Brawl at the end of the
season as our grand finale. These
Divisions bring back an affordable way
for everyone to have a chance to
compete.” For more information about
Enduro racing in 2010 check this
website. Steve Smith, sales
and marketing manager for Wiscasset
Raceway looks ahead to the 2010 season,
“We're looking for ways to make Maine
racing more affordable and more exciting
for race teams and race fans. We've
lowered the price of our pit passes and
have been working with a number of
sponsors on ticket promotions.”
Wiscasset Raceway is looking forward to
seeing both new and veteran drivers
competing in their 2010 Enduro
Divisions. As Doug White is known to
say, “BE THERE!”

Allard Wins
N.E.S.T Race at
Wiscasset
by Matt Childs

Wiscasset, ME-
The N.E.S.T (
North East Sport
Truck) series
rolled into The
"Center of
Speed" Wiscasset
Raceway this
Sunday to put on
a great show for
the fans and did
just that. The
four cylinder
truck series
started the
cloudy racing
program off with
their heat race
which saw Jeff
Schmidt of
Mechanic Falls
on the pole.
Schmidt's lead
would be short
lived however as
Gray's Jake
Burns powered by
Schmidt's #22
truck before the
first lap was
complete. Burns,
the three time
Oxford Plains
Speedway truck
champion held
the lead for two
laps before
Harpswell's Opie
Allard was able
to get by and
take the lead.
The lead is
where Allard
would stay for
the rest of the
heat race as he
picked up the
checkerd flag.
Duane Booth
would finish
second and Burns
in the third
posistion.
The feature
event which was
sponsored by
Wiswell Electric
and Mr. J's Auto
had Jeff Schmidt
and Miranda
Power starting
on the front row
but as soon as
the green flag
flew all the
drivers were
fighting for the
top spot making
it three wide in
every corner.
When the field
finally got
settled in it
was Opie Allard
who the rest of
the field would
have to chase
down. As Allard
streched his
lead lap after
lap the battle
for second had
the fans on
their feet. Ryan
Hayes, Duane
Booth and Jake
Burns fought it
out for the rest
of the race
making it three
wide several
times and racing
nose to tail
until they
crossed the
stripe for the
final time.
After 15 laps
the checkerd
flag was waved
for Opie Allard
who picked up
his fifth win of
his career.
Burns would just
get by Hayes on
the last lap to
take second.
Hayes hung in
for third. Duane
Booth would
finish fourth
and Jeff Schmidt
finished fifth.
